What is Internal Pelvic Release Work?

Internal Pelvic Release Work focuses on the soft tissue connections that support the organs within the pelvis, such as the bladder, bowel, and womb. These tissues—ligaments, fascia, and muscles—are designed to hold the organs in a balanced way, adjusting remarkably to changes like pregnancy.

However, tension can build up in these soft tissues, just like in any other part of the body. This tension can be conscious or unconscious and may stem from factors such as injuries, posture, trauma, surgery, or even lifestyle choices. When this tension persists, it can restrict movement, flow, and space, affecting both the bones and organs.

Interestingly, these tissues can also store memories and emotions, often referred to as ‘issues in the tissues.’ During an internal pelvic release session, gentle touch is used to identify and release tension, allowing the tissues to relax or 'sigh.'

When the tissues release, space and comfort are created. Through the back wall of the vagina, tender touch and guided breathing can help free tension in the ligaments, muscles, and fascia, helping restore balance and ease to the pelvic area.

What is involved in a Pelvic Release Work Session?

A 90min - 2 hour education and hands-on session includes:

  • A discussion on pelvic anatomy to support a woman’s knowledge of her pelvic space, pelvic bones and pelvic soft tissues.

  • An exploration and gentle release of tension in the soft tissue connections – ligaments, muscles, fascia – felt through the back wall of the vagina.

  • Guidance with ‘how to continue with self-care and further release work by the woman or with her partner’s support.

How Do I Know if Pelvic Release Work is Right for Me?

In a world where women are often undereducated about their pelvic health, it’s always beneficial to explore this work. Understanding the power of your womb, cervix, vagina, and pelvis is key to embracing the strength you hold as a woman.

A session is right for you if you’re preparing for birth. Freeing tension around the sacrotuberous ligaments can have a significant impact on baby's journey through the pelvis during birth. Just like any significant life event, birth requires preparation, and this work helps you reach your body's full anatomical potential. Optimally its best to receive 2 sessions around 32 and 37 weeks. 

If you’re experiencing pelvic pain, a session can be transformative. Pain creates tension, and tension leads to more pain. Pelvic Release Work invites the connective tissues to soften, supporting better flow and drainage within the pelvic area.

Pelvic Release Work supports the release of tension in the pelvic tissues and helps restore proper function, giving your body the care it deserves.

What does Pelvic Release Work feel like?

The release work is gentle but deliberate. The touch pressure will align with your preferences, and your feedback will be continually sort during the session.

The sensations are ‘weird’. We’re not working through skin and hair and fat like external bodywork. We’re working through the generous back wall of the vagina. Some fibres melt and soften with ease; others need more time and holding. Nothing is forced.

  • External work on supportive tissues as needed. 

  • An exploration and gentle release of tension in the soft tissue connections – ligaments, muscles, fascia – felt through the back wall of the vagina.

  • Guidance on how to continue with self-care and further release work by the woman or with her partner’s support.
